Creating my own PLN was slightly difficult because I could not decide which curation tool I wanted to use. After much debate, I chose to go with Scoop.it because I liked its organization and design. I can create topics that I enjoy, link information to them, and share it for others to view. It allows me to follow others with similar interests and bundle information together by topics. It seems quite simple to use, and I like being able to drag and drop related articles to my topics. In addition, I like being able to add your own insight to them! I look forward to exploring and learning through my PLN on Scoop.it.
Before creating my own PWP, I first viewed the PWP of other educators. This gave me an idea of the features I wanted to incorporate and the features that I wanted to do without. The PWP that stood out to me was developed by Derrick Jones. His website was personal, yet very professional. I liked that he included a page titled "My Story" that explained the events that led him to where he is today. I also enjoyed his page titled "Diet and Exercise" because it provided tips and facts for his viewers. Overall, Derrick Jones created a PWP that displayed his knowledge and personality through a simple site. I don't have any major recommendations for him, although there were a few spelling/grammar errors that I suggest fixing. Some of Derrick's features that I would like to use on my page would be his motivational quotes, engaging front page, and pictures/icons next to my work and school names. I am glad that I came across such a well developed page before creati
The internet has been the most significant resource throughout my college career. Nearly all of my assignments and projects have led me to do some form of research online. Even if I used the class textbook, there were still times that I turned to the internet for clarification. If I simply needed a quick answer or definition, I would pull up google.com and perform a quick search. I currently do not have any specific authors or sites that I follow, but there are websites that I like to visit to learn new things. A couple sites that I use are: http://www.nsca.com/Education/Articles/ and health.com. These two sites interest me because they discuss topics that are informational for overall wellness.
Even if I am not using the internet for learning purposes, I still find that I am learning something new. When I am on the internet, I am constantly reading even if I get distracted from my original task. If my attention gets directed toward something else it has likely intrigued me because it is something i want to learn or read more about. Because of this, I do not feel that I get distracted from "good" learning; all learning is good learning. Based on my online experience, I can say that there is a strong link between the internet and my learning. Microblogging has become increasingly popular over the recent years. For education and athletic purposes, it can be a helpful communication tool. In athletics for example, using things like Twitter, Facebook, or Flickr, allows for constant updates on games or contests. People are able to provide immediate news on scores and schedules, while others can search and be informed of the athletic news. Overall, it is a great way to spread team spirit, promote athletic events, and provide statistical updates.
Microblogging in an educational setting also has perks. It can be used by a school district to spread school news about fundraisers, new policies, board meetings, and any other events that are scheduled. This allows parents and students to have direct updates related to their school. Microblogging can be even more specific in a school setting because it can be used by certain classrooms. For example, an online class could use it to communicate with classmates about quizzes, exams, and projects. They could also form study groups and relay the meeting time and place through microblogging. Although I am new to things like Twitter, I can already see how it is beneficial for news and communication for athletic and educational pu My name is Melanie and this is my first ever blog post. Blogging is completely new to me, and I look forward to learning more about it. I am 23 years old, and I am currently a graduate student at Fresno Pacific University. Through my classes, I hope to learn much more about technology.
